Tell Us About Your Business

I started Miss Efficiency in 2002, with the intention of working from home and having a baby. There have been many changes in the business since then – starting out solo, hiring staff, moving to commercial premises, developing the franchise. Business has now come full circle and I am back to working solo from a home office with clients Australiawide – and the support of great franchisees. My passion and commitment have seen the business grow into a sustainable franchise and during that time I have managed to have two babies and keep up with both family and business commitments. Me and my team love bookkeeping (as strange as that may sound) and have a number of unique systems and proven strategies to assist our clients with their business needs.

What’s Your Favorite Thing About Working from Home?

My favourite thing about working from home is the flexibility. I have two young boys (aged 2 & 3) who are in full time kindy and I work from home full time. However, because I work for myself I control my diary and don’t have to be bound to what an employer expects of me. When the kids need a “mummy day” or we want to have an early swim before dinner, I can work my business around my life and take this valuable time with my little boys. That’s time I’ll never get back, but that bank reconciliation will wait until tomorrow!

What One Piece of Advice Would You Give to Women Getting Started Working from Home?

Believe in yourself. You can do everything that you set your mind to, plus more. Generally we’re our loudest and most critical critic. Give yourself a break, control your own future, and take all necessary steps to start your own work from home journey!

Thank you, Sarah, for sharing your wisdom and your business!
